The atrocities in Darfur, Sudan are paralyzing. Over 400,000 are dead, 2 million are displaced and 5,000 are dying every month during a genocide that began in 2003, according to some reports. A small Africa Union force of 7,000 troops has been unable to halt the violence between the Arab-led government and ethnic African rebels.
For the past three years, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has engaged in a campaign to end the genocide in Darfur. "In recent months, the media has begun to display the desperation in Darfur to the world community, but the situation continues to worsen," said Crispian Kirk, NAACP Director, International Relations. "We must take action! Without our help, thousands more will suffer and die."
