The NAACP Youth & College Division through its “100 Remix” campaign will serve as a 2009-2010 sponsor of The Black College Expo; a five city tour aimed at increasing college enrollment among underserved and underrepresented youth. The Black College Expo is one of the most exciting college expos of the year for thousands of students and parents. This year, the BCE will feature over 50 Historically Black Colleges & Universities. Through the expo, students and parents receive pertinent information about college admission, SAT & ACT preparation, financial aid and scholarship opportunities. The NAACP “100 REMIX” campaign will host a booth with interactive activities at the five College Expo locations; New York (October 24, 2009), DC/Maryland (October 31, 2009), Los Angeles (January 23, 2010), Oakland/SF (January 30, 2010) and Atlanta (February 27, 2010). The activities will be aimed at engaging the participants and increasing youth & college membership in the NAACP. For more information on the BCE visit www.thecollegeexpo.org.

President Obama recently proposed to Congress a budget designed to make higher education both more affordable and more accessible. Thanks to the hard work of thousands of young people, including members of the NAACP Youth & College Division, the initial budget proposal was passed in both the House and the Senate. The NAACP’s College Access and Affordability Campaign would like to thank the Representatives and Senators who voted to pass the budget, and the youth who exhibited strength in numbers by contacting their local Representatives about the proposal.
And while the passage of these budget resolutions is certainly something to be celebrated, it’s important to remember that it is still only a first step towards making change into a reality. Now more than ever, we must speak out in support of the provisions of President Obama’s budget plan, including those ensuring that everyone has equal access to higher education. The NAACP encourages you to speak out and continue to remind our Congress members that money we spend today represents a critical investment in our future.
Hundreds of NAACP members and volunteers rallied outside of the Supreme Court to tell the court to "Keep the Act Together" on April 29th, to show their support for the Voting Rights Act, which protects voters against discriminatory voting changes. Section 5 of the Act is currently being challenged in the Supreme Court by rightwing law groups on the grounds that it is unconstitutional. Read President Jealous' oped on the issue »
In the spirit of the ‘60s ‘Freedom Rides,’ the NAACP’s Youth and College Division organized Get Out the Vote activities that included a NAACP “Think Hard, Vote Hard” bus tour. The statewide tour throughout South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama made stops in almost 108 communities, reaching nearly 20,000 people. NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous joined the bus tour in Columbus, Georgia to rally the students and get them excited about their role in this historic election.
Through the generous support of the Ford Foundation and contributions from Global Justice, Inc., the NAACP Youth & College Division has created a nationwide Social Security Empowerment Initiative aimed at increasing African American students' knowledge about Social Security and the proposed changes to how the system currently operates.
